David DeMordaunt - Artist Statement

The heart of my work is storytelling. Finding the narrative within the wood, then bringing it to life. Once I understand the story to be told, my design work is centered in simplicity, and respect for the natural beauty of wood. I take much inspiration from Japanese woodworking, as well as Chinese ink brush painting - where depth and intrigue can be conveyed with just a few simple lines. Within these general principles, I follow a different muse for each project, so there is no definitive way to categorize my style. Lithe is the best word to convey what I aspire to do.

Whether the project is large or small, I seek to create pieces that will add depth and warmth to an environment.
